4 New Swimsuit Trends for Summer 2022

It’s that time of year again! The vernal equinox is just a few weeks away and temperatures are warming up. Whether you’re hitting the beach or just chilling poolside, a great swimsuit is a must-have for those hot summer days. While we’re seeing some of 2021’s trends in this year’s fashions (asymmetrical suits, cutouts and sparkly fabrics are still hot!), we also found a few new styles to add to our wishlist.

Ruffles

Left to Right: A black woman with long curly hair wears a teal swimsuit with ruffles at the shoulders; A white woman with brown hair and blue eyes wears a navy off the shoulder swimsuit with ruffles at the top edge; a plus size white woman with blond hair wears a yellow floral swimsuit with ruffles at the neck and chest.

Ruffles are hot across the runway right now. From knitting to swimsuits, ruffled edges add a delicate feminine touch, no matter which style you prefer. We love the two-tone Ruffled Backflip from Summersalt with its open back and flirty edges. Take advantage of the off-the-shoulder trend with the Palm Beach One-Piece from Kate Spade. Or check out the combination of ruffles around the neck and the sweet floral print on this suit from Meet.Curve.

The Tankini

Left to Right: A white woman with blond hair wears a watercolor floral two piece swimsuit with a tank and bikini bottoms; a black woman with short curly hair wears a retro print brown tankini with red and magenta flowers; a white woman with long curly hair wears a colorblock tanikini in green, white and navy.

The Tankini is back! Whether you like your tanks shorter and cropped, or longer and torso-lengthening, there are tons of suits to choose from. Go stripes AND floral in the Watercolor Reversible Tankini from Tommy Bahamas – two styles in one great swimsuit. Or go for a wild, vibrant print with a 70’s vibe with the Plunge Tankini from Athleta. We’re also loving the simple stripes of the Lime Tree Cut Back Crop from Nani Swimwear.

Throwback to the 70s

Left to right: A woman with dark brown hair and large earrings wears a yellow-flowered romper style swimsuit, a woman with curly brown hair wears a retro block print swimsuit in orange, yellow, black and red; a white woman with her hands in her hair models a two piece floral print suit in mustard with a swim skirt.

What’s old is new this season, and swimsuits are full of that retro vibe. Nothing says the 70’s like a romper, and the Mauve Swim Romper in Ditsy Mustard from Joyfolie captures the ethos perfectly! Go graphic with the Retro 70’s Geo Cut Out from San Lorenzo Bikinis – this is actually a one piece, with cutouts to make it look like a bikini! Or try out a swim skirt in fabric reminiscent of a bygone era with the Golden Hour High-Waisted Swim Skirt from Albion.

Bringing Sexy Back

Left to right: A black woman with curly hair wears a striped swimsuit with crossed back straps; A woman wears a backless teal animal print swimsuit, an Asian woman wears a turquoise once piece with a large circular cutout at the back.

This year’s swimsuits feature plunging lines or barely-there backs, if you dare! Go strappy with the Tahiti Cross Back from Marine Layer or this fun Floral and Animal Print One-Piece from Dia. Or try something a bit more athletic with a gorgeous cutout, like the Deep Sea One-Piece from Athleta.

We hope we’ve given you a bit of inspiration for your summer shopping list! No matter what you choose, don’t forget to keep your swimwear ready for your next dip (and smelling amazing) with Eucalan Delicate Wash in your favourite scent! If you haven’t seen quite the right suit for you yet, you can find more swimsuit inspiration on our Pinterest board for Workout and Swim Wear!

Asymmetrical is in and oh so cool! Go for something sleek and modern with the Rib Asymmetrical One Piece from Athleta. Or have some modern fun in the sun with Les Essentiels Scarlett Bikini from Net-a-Porter. Or combine asymmetrical and a keyhole cutout with The Reversible Claudia by Solid & Striped. Glitz & Glamour

Glam it up with gorgeous shimmery fabrics for a little of that Hollywood glitz! Nothing says glamour like gold – we love the Beach Shimmer Bikini by Loft. Or add some ties (another trend!) with the Lurex Swimsuit with Bows from Violeta by Mango. If you’re lounging poolside, add some accessories and let the Blush and Gold Pineapple Set from Doll shine!

Ties & Belts

This year we’re seeing a focus on details like ties and belts. The Beach Wrap One Piece Swimsuit by Loft is the picture of elegance. Whereas the Grace Bikini by Free People adds a bit of that shimmer plus fun ties. Or go wild with the animal print in the Beach Riot Tie One Piece Swimsuit by Anthropologie.

As with mainstream fashion in 2019, prints are in! Make a statement with animal pieces, go for bold geometrics, or keep it sweet and demure with wallpaper florals. Cutouts are another design trend for the season: think plunging necklines, high cut bottoms or snips in unexpected places. Try a daring neckline with the Adriana Strappy Monikini by Lingerie Diva. Eucalan Swimsuit Pin

Caring for Summer Beachwear with Eucalan

It’s summertime, and whether you’re heading to the beach or staying poolside, you can keep your swimwear and towels in great shape by keeping them laundered with Eucalan.

Swimsuit Care

To keep your swimsuit looking fresh you should wash it after every use with your favourite scent (try our Lavender, Jasmine and Grapefruit scents for their naturally antiseptic properties).  Whether you stock a bottle at home, or keep our single use pods handy, Eucalan makes it easy to remove oils, lotions and chlorine from your suit at home or on vacation. Follow these easy steps to ensure a clean-smelling suit every time.

Step 1: Fill a sink or basin with tepid water (room temperature).

Step 2: Add either a capful of Eucalan or the contents of a single use pod.

Step 3: Add your swimsuit and soak for 15 minutes.

Step 4: Remove your swimsuit and gently squeeze out water (do not wring). You may also wish to roll in a towel and squeeze again to remove excess water.

Step 5: Hang suit to dry overnight.

For more information on swimsuit care you can also check out this article over at Lingerie Journal.

Towel Care

But what about those sandy or chlorinated towels? Eucalan can also be used in your washing machine to keep fluffy beach towels looking bright and smelling sweet.

Step 1: Add Eucalan to your washing machine (if it’s a front load machine, add it to the fabric softener drawer).

Step 2: Select the Delicate cycle and tepid water.

Step 3: Load your towels into the machine and start cycle.

Step 4: Allow the towels to spin out.

Step 5: Dry your towels in the dryer on low heat.

We hope these tips will keep your trips to the beach, lake or pool carefree and easy.

Easy Swimwear Care

Sometimes, you just need a day at the beach (or lounging poolside). But sun, sea salt, and chlorine can wreak havoc on your swimwear if not properly cared for.

Keep your bathing suit looking its best with Eucalan.

The good news is that it’s quite easy to keep your bathing suit in tip-top condition: after every use, wash in your favourite scent of Eucalan. We show you how in this easy tutorial:

As you can see, it takes only a few minutes to remove the oils, chlorine and lotions which can break down the fibres of your swim suit and fade the colours over time. You can even wash your suit in your hotel sink while traveling with our single use pods! We recommend our LavenderGrapefruit or Jasmine scents for their naturally antiseptic properties.

Single Use Pods of Eucalan are great for travel.

Spa Day for Luxe Lingerie & Active Wear

Luxe lingerie deserves the very best to preserve it for years to come. Just as you would treat yourself to a spa day, why not show your extra special pieces some TLC?

Eucalan brings to mind a “spa-like” atmosphere. The natural formula, free from dyes, optical brighteners, enzymes, bleach and synthetic fragrances, shows well in the natural bottle. The bottle itself is see-through, showing  that we are transparent: there’s nothing to hide. Most people feel refreshed when they use Eucalan, which can be attributed to the light, natural essential oil fragrances which scent the air and your delicate garments as well as the fact that laundering with Eucalan couldn’t possibly be any easier.

Active wear lasts longer when properly cared for; visit the Eucalan blog for easy to follow instructions.

Giving lingerie, swimwear and active wear a quick wash in the basin is not a laborious task. A quick dip and squeeze is all it takes (click here to view our complete care instructions over on our website). Because Eucalan is free from all the harsh stuff other cleaners have, there’s no need to rinse the product out – in fact, our lanolin-enriched formula will condition and soften your luxe and specialty fibres. Better yet, our gentle, natural formula won’t dull colours or break down the elastic. In fact, your stretchy garments need that quick bath to remove body oils, perfumes and lotions so they can go back to their original shape, which will help them to last longer.

We have four great scents, plus a natural fragrance-free option. For the ultimate spa experience, we recommend our Lavender and Jasmine scents. Click each image below to learn more on our website!

Bathing Suit Do’s &Don’ts

swimwear2014You’ve followed this year’s trends and found the perfect swimsuit for Summer 2014 – that’s already a “do”! Now you just have to keep it looking great all season long by avoiding these don’ts:

  • Even if your swimsuit is white, don’t use bleach! Bleach is a sure-fire way to damage fibres and reduce the life of your suit.
  • Don’t machine-wash your swimsuit! This causes pilling and also breaks down fibres.
  • After each use, don’t forget to wash your suit in a mild detergent such as Eucalan to remove sweat, salt, chlorine, sunblock, bacteria and sand.
  • Don’t stretch out your suit by using a clothes dryer or hanging it up to dry! It’s best to use a towel to squeeze out the remaining water, then lay flat to dry out of direct sunlight.
  • Don’t use the same suit every day. Your swim suit will need 24 hours to regain shape, and it’s best to wait until it’s 100% dry before using it again.

No need to be intimidated by the above list – caring for swimwear is easy with Eucalan, we promise! In the short tutorial video below, Eucalan‘s managing director Jennifer Edgar shares easy-to-follow tips to keep your swimwear, workout gear and other technical fibres looking their best:
